Alex Smith graduated from Middletown High School in 1969. He received a BA in political science from Ohio University in 1973. He received a JD from Albany Law School in 1977, after spending two years of writing for the Albany Law Review; two of his articles were published. Alex was licensed to practice law in New York in 1978. He has since become a member of the bars of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of New York. For the past 30 years, Alex has engaged in trial and appellate practice in the Federal and State courts, concentrating in the fields of civil rights, criminal, municipal and land use law.
