Athlea Adkisson

Featured Lawyer

Family and Divorce Law

P.O. Box 701224, Tulsa, OK 74170

Athlea M. Adkisson is a Powell Hanner attorney in Oklahoma City whose practice involves defending employers in workers’ compensation claims across Oklahoma. Criminal defense came earlier: she practiced in Oklahoma and Arizona while also managing a law firm. Social Security disability and family law matters are other parts of her practice history. At Interstate Trucker, Adkisson held the title of supervising attorney from 1999 to 2007. Alongside criminal defense and trucking-law work, that position included supervision of attorneys and legal staff. Her next listed position was with Burton Law Group, where she worked from June 2007 to December 2022 in workers’ compensation and Social Security disability. A Tulsa position followed. Her professional profile records November 2022 through October 2023 at The Lawyers of Kendall Whittier and a September 2023 start at Shears Powell & Hanner. Adkisson grew up in rural southwestern Oklahoma and took a business-focused route through college. At Oklahoma State University, her bachelor’s degree combined a business management major with a marketing minor. She went directly from Oklahoma State to the University of Oklahoma College of Law, completing her law degree in 1997. While there, she represented OU at the Regional Negotiation Competition. Phi Alpha Delta membership spanned both her undergraduate and law-school years. Powell Hanner’s biography lists licenses in Oklahoma and Arizona and identifies Mustang, Oklahoma, as her home.

Personal Injury Law

7447 S Lewis Ave, Tulsa, OK 74136, USA

Being challenged in life is inevitable; being defeated is optional. For some, a challenge can be an excuse to shy away from circumstances. It is all the more reason to face the situation, and this is exactly how I represent our clients, as we face challenges together. In Kindergarten, I walked across the stage to the middle, standing next to my teacher, telling all of my friends and their families that I wanted to be a lawyer when I grow up. I didn’t think it would actually happen until halfway through my undergraduate degree when I was accepted into law schools. As much as I love learning, I was a doer. At the University of Tulsa College of Law, any chance I had to work outside of the class rather than sit in a room, I took it. With that, I worked for Honorable John Dowdell in the U.S. Northern District of Oklahoma for one summer where I read motions and summary judgments, researched the issues, and wrote more than 15 drafts of opinions for Judge Dowdell. I also worked for Life Church legal counsel, Tulsa County Public Defenders’ Office, Check-6, Inc., Fry & Elder law firm, and Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office. Any opportunity I have to go and do, I take it. After graduating law school in the top of my class and passing the bar, I worked at the Tulsa County District Attorney’s office, where I tried jury trials for misdemeanor and felony cases. After gaining invaluable trial experience there, I joined my grandfather, father, and their partners here at Richardson Richardson Boudreaux. Now I have the opportunity to serve individuals in what may be one of the most challenging times in their lives. We would love the opportunity to serve you.

Distinguished Lawyer

Family and Divorce Law

P.O. Box 701224, Tulsa, OK 74170

Sara M. Schmook is a Tulsa family-law attorney and the owner and senior attorney of The Schmook Law Firm. Accounting came before law: she earned an English degree at Oklahoma State University, obtained CPA status in 2003 and spent several years working in international accounting. Her decision to change professions followed a divorce and custody dispute of her own. The first person in her family to need a divorce, she entered the proceedings unfamiliar with the courts; her family helped her find an attorney for what became a years-long custody battle. She later left her accounting job for law school, intending to help others facing that process. In 2012, she earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Tulsa and opened her own office after graduation. Her work has included divorce and custody cases, guardianships, protective orders and estate planning. She also took part in the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Leadership Academy in 2019. Schmook met fellow attorney Shannon Brown in law school. Brown merged her solo practice into The Schmook Law Firm in October 2025 and is its managing attorney; associate attorney Madison Plumhoff joined in September 2024. The firm lists mediation and retirement account division among its services, alongside its divorce, support and custody work. Its Tulsa office is at 2930 South Yale Avenue, Suite B.
