Daniel Riggs

Bankruptcy Law

2471 Ram Crossing Way, Henderson, NV 89074, USA

Most bankruptcy attorneys know the process from one side of the table. Dan Riggs has seen it from both. Before founding the Riggs Law Firm, Dan spent more than a decade as the senior attorney to a Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee in Nevada — one of the most demanding and consequential roles in the federal bankruptcy system. That position placed Dan at the center of how Nevada's bankruptcy system actually works. He helped author the Nevada Plan Form — the standardized document that governs how Chapter 13 repayment plans are structured across the state. He was a driving force behind the establishment of the Nevada Mortgage Modification Program, which has helped countless homeowners restructure mortgage debt and save their homes through bankruptcy. He litigated bankruptcy appeals at the federal level and personally conducted thousands of 341 meetings of creditors — the same hearings his clients now walk into with him by their side.

As a result of her academic achievements, Heather was awarded a scholarship and chose to attend the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law. Initially, Heather planned to focus her legal career on environmental law, but that changed after working at an on-campus legal clinic helping indigent clients. As a result of her experience, Heather developed a new plan for her career: helping injured people. After graduating from McGeorge in 2001, Heather started her career in Las Vegas and was determined to gain litigation experience with top-rated lawyers as her mentors. Heather secured a position as an associate attorney for a prestigious regional law firm. She spent the first few years of her career honing her litigation skills by managing a large caseload for numerous corporate clients. Her experience handling civil cases in both State and Federal Court proved invaluable and provided a solid foundation for her future as a tenacious litigate. Although she enjoyed success in this position and sharpened her skills as an advocate, Heather decided to move on when she was contacted by the City of North Las Vegas to work as a deputy city attorney. She loved her new position, but quickly found she missed litigation. In 2006, Heather decided it was time to get back to helping individuals and she began the next phase of her career working for Harris Schwartz. As a seasoned litigator and trial attorney, my journey in the legal field began with a profound realization early in my career. While meticulously tracking every minute and creating billable hours, I discovered a different approach to legal practice—one that aligns with my values and economic insights: the contingency fee arrangement. This revelation led me to delve into contingency-based work, particularly in personal injury law. With each passing day, my conviction deepened that this was the perfect fit for my skills and principles, and I have never looked back since. It was this passion that drove me to establish The LJU Law Firm, a practice dedicated to serving a diverse clientele with unwavering commitment and expertise. At The LJU Law Firm, my focus areas include trial law and personal injury, encompassing product liability, motor vehicle collisions, motorcycle accidents, slip and falls, trip and falls, paralysis, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), amputation, back surgeries, and neck surgeries. I also specialize in civil rights cases, including 1983 claims, excessive force, medical indifference, First Amendment rights, and retaliation. Every jury verdict, whether a victory or defeat, represents a significant accomplishment in my pursuit of justice for my clients. In my legal journey, I have found that every case, regardless of its size, holds its own unique lessons and memorable moments. Some of the most rewarding experiences have come from securing substantial settlements for our clients. I take great pride in actively listening to and maintaining regular communication with my clients, ensuring that they understand they are not alone in their legal battles. My commitment extends beyond the courtroom. I work tirelessly to help clients access the necessary medical treatment for their pain and injuries and ensure they receive fair and reasonable settlements. Collaboration and open communication with our dedicated team members are integral to our success. One standout achievement in our practice involved a product liability case that took us on a five-year journey, involving countless hours, and trips to Hanover, Germany, Ohio, and Manchester, UK, as well as numerous depositions. In the end, we secured a remarkable $12.1 million settlement for a deserving widow, providing her with the financial support she needed in the wake of her loss At The LJU we are not only advocates for our clients but also active participants in our community. We are proud members of the Nevada Justice Association and are dedicated to making our society stronger through legal advocacy Outside of the courtroom, I find joy in a variety of pursuits, including golf, spending time with family, basketball, mountain biking, and attending concerts and comedy shows. These experiences enrich my life and fuel my passion for serving our clients with the utmost dedication and expertise Thank you for considering The LJU Law Firm for your legal needs. I look forward to the opportunity to provide you with exceptional legal representation and support.

John Charvat Boyden represents people in personal injury cases at Friedman & Throop in Reno, Nevada. His move to the firm in early 2024 followed a career that included defending personal injury and construction defect lawsuits across Nevada. He now works with Julie Throop on litigation and trials, with a practice covering vehicle accidents, slip-and-fall claims, negligent security and medical malpractice. A substantial part of that earlier career was spent at Erickson, Thorpe & Swainston. During twenty-five years there, Boyden became a partner and owner and served as one of its lead trial attorneys; the firm’s work was almost entirely insurance defense. Among his trials was a seven-week dispute over plumbing defects in a downtown Reno apartment-to-condominium conversion. In 2021, he joined Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard and Smith as a partner. Boyden’s ties to Reno began in childhood, when his family moved there from Denver. A 1983 Reno High School graduate, he studied history at Whitman College, graduating in 1987, and completed law school at Loyola in Los Angeles in 1990. Nevada bar admission followed law school. He started his legal career in Washoe County as a clerk to Judge Jerry Carr Whitehead, then spent two years at Guild & Hagen. His next firm, Jenkins & Frey, concentrated on complex civil litigation. There, his work included the litigation over environmental cleanup of the Sparks tank farm.

Many of my clients have told me they cannot believe I am a lawyer, which I hope is a compliment. I pride myself on being dedicated to my clients, understanding of their needs, and passionate about attaining their desired results. My clients know I am hardworking, honest, and available to speak to them whenever they have questions. Though I primarily practice criminal law, the most important part of my job is helping my clients get through hard times. While I know my clients appreciate my strong grasp of the law, I understand being a lawyer is more than being a law nerd: it is about being there for people. I am a native Nevadan and am grateful to have worked in the casino and hospitality industries, the film business, and for several nonprofits. The skills I learned working in several industries help me in and outside of the courtroom. When I am not practicing law, you can find me enjoying one of the many glorious activities which make Northern Nevada the best place in to live.
