Patrick Tighe
Distinguished LawyerCivil Litigation
721 US HWY 1, 101, North Palm Beach, FL 33406
For nearly a decade, Patrick J. Tighe has been going up against and standing up to big insurance companies that don’t honor their promise to do the right thing. In the process, he’s developed a record for getting clients the recoveries insurers didn’t want to give. It’s a task for which few lawyers are as uniquely qualified. The son of an insurance agent, and a former senior claims adjuster himself, Patrick saw firsthand how the big insurers worked: good claims delayed and even denied; serious injuries not adequately compensated. Too many cases undervalued, and too many people failed. The need to do something about that was what sparked Pat’s legal career. A graduate of Villanova University and St. John’s University, School of Law, Patrick opened Patrick J. Tighe, P.A., his Florida practice in 2002 and this developed into X1Law P.A. In the time since, he has helped thousands of individuals obtain the recoveries they deserve. Leveraging his prior experience working the ‘other side,’ Pat knows the strategies and tactics big insurers use to stall and hamper claims — and makes sure they don’t work. It’s tangible experience — and perspective — few lawyers can bring to a case. An active member of his community, Patrick helped start and fund the lacrosse program at Suncoast Community High School, in Palm Beach County, Florida. A former lacrosse player at Villanova, he coached the Suncoast team, too. To those who know him, that’s not surprising. For whether in the courtroom of the playing field, Pat’s aim is simple: to be there for those who need his help. It’s a goal Patrick J. Tighe meets time and time again.

As a Public Defender, Paul successfully represented clients charged with every degree of crime, including DUI, assault, hit and run, rape, burglary, larceny, drug distribution, and murder. In December 1997, Paul successfully defended Louis Lamont Martin, an 18-year-old charged with capital murder and robbery, and kept him from receiving the death penalty. In 1998, Paul accepted a position as a prosecutor for the Kentucky Office of the Attorney General in the Special Prosecutions Division. The six-member Special Prosecution team handled high-profile and sensitive cases from all across Kentucky, with an emphasis on public corruption, capital murder, white collar crime, and election fraud. In 2001, Paul and his wife Anne moved their family back to Virginia where Paul took a post as a Virginia Assistant Attorney General. At Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen, Paul R. M. Cullen often sees clients on their worst days. More than just knowing the law, he believes his job is to comfort, educate, and advocate for those who are unable to advocate for themselves. That’s when the real work begins. Paul grew up in Montreal, Canada. After graduating high school in Montreal, Paul continued his schooling in the United States. He graduated from Lake Forest College in Illinois, earning a B.A. with a double major in business and international relations. Paul then attended Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, California, where he met his wife Lindsay. After passing the California Bar, Paul and Lindsay moved to Nevada. Following his admission to the Nevada Bar, Paul began his legal career representing individuals greatly impacted by the financial crisis. He assisted hundreds of clients struggling with debt, as well as those who were underwater on their homes. Paul knew early on that helping people and families was how he wanted to dedicate his law practice. After several years of helping those suffering from the financial crisis, Paul transitioned to personal injury law, where he refocused his dedication and passion for helping others to assisting those who were harmed because of someone else’s negligence. He loves giving his clients a voice and fighting for their rights. In 2017, Paul joined Bertoldo Carter Smith & Cullen. To Paul, the best part of being a personal injury attorney is helping his clients recover from the injuries and losses they have suffered—and bringing a smile back to their faces. His experience as a tested trial lawyer with significant courtroom experience and skills — as well as a genuine affection for the people he represents — shapes his approach in every case. As a result of his singular focus on helping people, he has helped numerous deserving clients obtain high seven- and eight-figure recoveries after challenging litigation. Mr. Slager has a national reputation as an elite advocate for seriously injured people, but he focuses his law practice on helping people in courts throughout Connecticut. His track record is long, and his history of large recoveries for his clients is well documented. The Connecticut Super Lawyers* publication has repeatedly listed him as one of the Top 10 Attorneys in Connecticut. He is honored to be the only trial attorney to have three different verdicts or settlements inducted as winners in the Connecticut Law Tribune’s Personal Injury Hall of Fame, and the Best Lawyers publication has named Mr. Slager a “Best Lawyers Lawyer of the Year” in several plaintiff-centered practice areas many times, including most recently in 2025 and 2026. During 2019-20, Mr. Slager was elected and served as President of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association, a bar association that serves more than 1,000-member trial attorneys. He served in that capacity when the COVID pandemic hit, working closely with all stakeholders, including the Connecticut Bar Association, the Connecticut legislature, and the Connecticut Judicial Branch, to respond in real time to the crisis the pandemic created for Connecticut’s court systems. He is an elected member of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, an invitation-only membership limited to 500 active lawyers across the United States. Both the Connecticut legislature and the Judicial Branch have appointed him multiple times to committees studying potential improvements in laws providing protections to Connecticut citizens. Mr. Slager pursues serious cases in Connecticut that stem from catastrophic events, including medical malpractice, sexual abuse, violent crimes, interstate trucking crashes, defective consumer products, fires and explosions, brain injuries, and other life-altering events. Consistent with his interest in handling complex cases. He also has pursued cases for businesses and individuals on a contingency fee basis in situations involving significant financial disputes. In keeping with the core principles of Slager Madry, Mr. Slager only accepts cases that involve serious consequences, and only after conducting a detailed investigation to determine cases have merit. He will pursue cases only when doing so will balance an important injustice, improve public safety, or otherwise make a significant positive difference for a family or the larger community.
