About Willie
Willie D. Powells III is a personal injury attorney in Houston and the founding attorney of the Law Offices of Willie D. Powells III & Associates PLLC, where he is president and CEO. The State Bar of Texas lists him as eligible to practice, with a Texas license date of May 4, 2006.
Powells studied chemical engineering at Drexel University before entering law. His bachelor’s degree included minors in biology and music, with piano as his instrument, and a concentration in biomaterials and tissue engineering. He worked in a research laboratory under Drexel professor Cato T. Laurencin. His education also includes an MBA from Houston Baptist University and a JD from South Texas College of Law; the bar records his law-school graduation as May 2004.
At South Texas, Powells was a Student Bar Association vice president and a member of the varsity mock trial team. His firm’s account of those years also lists a clerkship with Judge Levi Benton in the 215th District Court and work in Exxon Mobil’s legal department.
His early legal work included a position with the Wendy Buskop intellectual property and patent law firm. Litigation work at another firm came next, followed by his own general practice. In describing that practice, his biography recalls a commercial trucking collision case for which he took responsibility for both case management and client advocacy. His bar profile lists commercial litigation and intellectual property as well as personal injury litigation.
