Garryl Deas

Garryl L. Deas is an attorney and the founder of Deas Law Firm in Sumter, South Carolina. His legal work has included personal injury, criminal defense, family law, workers’ compensation, real estate, and civil matters.

A Sumter native, Deas earned a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from the University of South Carolina in 1991. He received his Juris Doctor from Syracuse University College of Law in 1996 and subsequently returned to Sumter. His early career included work as an associate attorney for John Miles and J. David Weeks. In 1999, he became a partner at Weeks, Deas, & Hadstate, LLC. He later established his own firm, which opened in January 2004. As the practice grew, he purchased a downtown Sumter office building previously owned by attorney M.M. “Rusty” Weinberg Jr.

Deas also has a record of municipal judicial service. He served as municipal judge for Timmonsville from July 2000 through January 2004. His service in Atlantic Beach included periods from February 2003 through January 2004 and January 2009 through February 2010. From 2003 to 2010, he served as drug forfeiture attorney for Third Circuit Solicitor C. Kelly Jackson. That work involved drug seizure litigation in Sumter, Clarendon, and Williamsburg counties.
