About Olivier

Olivier Chouc is Senior Vice-President and Chief Legal Officer at CN, a position to which he was appointed on September 15, 2022. His progression through the company’s legal department began in 2000, when he joined as counsel working on real estate, supply management and transactions. He subsequently became senior counsel, taking on greater responsibility for mergers and acquisitions before assuming management of that group. In 2006, CN named him Assistant Vice-President, General Counsel and Managing Partner. His appointment as Vice-President, Law followed in January 2011.

Before joining CN, Chouc worked in both private practice and an in-house legal department. He spent seven years at Ogilvy Renault, leaving in 1998 to become in-house counsel at Abitibi-Consolidated (Donohue Inc.). There, his work included support for procurement management and responsibility for a portfolio covering real estate, litigation and intellectual property. He also undertook transactional assignments, including work on aspects of the sale of Donohue Inc. to Abitibi-Consolidated. Those responsibilities preceded his move to CN and the later expansion of his mergers and acquisitions role.

Chouc’s legal education was at Université Laval, where he graduated from the Faculty of Law in 1990. He was admitted to the Quebec Bar the following year. In 2005, the National Post named him among Canada’s Top 40 under 40 In-House Counsel.
