About Denis

Denis Gebhardt is a Düsseldorf lawyer whose work includes litigation, international arbitration and corporate disputes. He founded Gebhardt Legal in 2016. Before that, he was a partner in the Düsseldorf office of a US law firm, responsible for litigation and arbitration. His German admission dates to 2000; his admission in New York followed in 2003.

Cross-border proceedings are a particular focus of his practice. Gebhardt represents German and international clients in court and before international arbitral tribunals, and also sits as an arbitrator. His firm biography reports appointments in more than 80 proceedings as either a tribunal chair or a co-arbitrator, under ICC, DIS and SCAI rules and the German Code of Civil Procedure. His work as a legal expert runs in both directions: he gives evidence on German law in US proceedings and on New York law before German courts.

Corporate law is another part of his advisory work, particularly disputes within companies. He also writes about the proceedings in which such disputes are resolved. In the Münchener Handbuch on corporate litigation, his contribution concerns cases with international elements. For Hölters’ Unternehmenskauf, he has written the chapter on business acquisitions before courts and arbitral tribunals since the ninth edition.

Alongside practice and writing, Gebhardt teaches for VDI Wissensforum. The subjects identified in his biography are contract law, distribution law, product liability and employment law for managers.
