About Stefan
Stefan Latorre is the founder and managing partner of Latorre Law Firm in Charlotte, North Carolina. He established the firm in 1996 to represent injured people and immigrants. Before that, his work was in international tax: based in Miami, he helped U.S. companies set up operations in more than 20 foreign countries.
Two workers’ compensation cases feature in his firm biography. In Francisco Ruiz v. Belk Masonry, he represented an undocumented worker whose benefits award was upheld by the North Carolina Court of Appeals. The worker had used false documentation to obtain employment. Another case, Vicente Acosta v. Edwin Painting, concerned access to interpreters. Latorre argued that matter before the Full Commission, which determined that the injured worker was entitled to a paid interpreter at all medical appointments.
His immigration work has included removal proceedings as well as helping clients obtain permanent residence and U.S. citizenship through naturalization. Latorre Law Firm also represents individuals in personal injury and criminal defense matters, alongside its workers’ compensation and immigration practices.
In Charlotte, Latorre chaired the Immigrant Integration Task Force, created by the City Council in November 2013. Its 29 members delivered their recommendations to the council in February 2015. His community roles have also included board service with Discovery Place, Theater Charlotte, Charlotte Center City Partners, the McColl Center for Visual Arts, and the Latin Chamber of Commerce.
