About Shanice

Shanice D. Hinckson is a New York lawyer and an associate with Petrillo Klein + Boxer LLP. Her work encompasses civil litigation, internal investigations, and criminal and regulatory proceedings for both individuals and corporations. Before joining the firm, she held an associate position at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP and clerked for Judge Robyn F. Tarnofsky in the Southern District of New York.

A custody dispute was among the pro bono matters she worked on at Simpson Thacher. The firm represented a mother whose Family Court order granted full custody and allowed her to move with her child to another state. When the father challenged that order, Hinckson argued the appeal before the Appellate Division, First Department, on September 22, 2020. Mary Beth Forshaw and Susan Cordaro were also on the team. The court affirmed the order on October 13, accepting findings about domestic violence, the mother’s attention to the child’s educational and medical needs, and the child’s best interests in relocating. The referral came from Sanctuary for Families.

Hinckson’s education took her from Trinity College, where she received a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in 2015, to Howard University School of Law. At Howard, she combined her studies with managing editor duties at the Howard Law Journal and an internship at the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, earning her law degree cum laude in 2018. Her admissions include New York State and the federal district court for the Southern District of New York.
