About Mina

Mina Malik is a New York trial attorney and the CEO and executive partner of The Cochran Firm New York. Before joining the firm, she held positions in prosecution, criminal investigation and civilian oversight of police.

As executive director of New York City’s Civilian Complaint Review Board, Malik was responsible for daily operations and a staff of 180. The agency investigates allegations of police misconduct. She launched its interactive Data Transparency Initiative to open the board’s data to the public. Her work there followed a special counsel position with Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth P. Thompson. In that office, Malik’s brief extended from personnel and agency restructuring to policy and cases involving wrongful convictions, sex crimes, child abuse and homicides.

In Queens, she prosecuted felony cases and argued appeals for the district attorney’s office. Special Victims was her principal focus: she oversaw investigations, prosecutions and litigation concerning child homicides, physical and sexual abuse of children, sex trafficking and adult sex crimes. She also worked on the investigative side of criminal cases as a criminal investigator for the D.C. Public Defender Service.

Teaching is another part of Malik’s background. Harvard Law School lists her as a lecturer on law for Winter 2026; its faculty biography also records her service as visiting faculty in the Harvard Trial Advocacy Workshop beginning in 2010. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Bates College and a law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law.
