About Mina
Mina Malik is a trial attorney in New York City and the CEO and executive partner of The Cochran Firm New York. Her earlier positions involved prosecution, criminal investigation and civilian oversight of police.
In Queens, Malik prosecuted felony cases and handled appeals for the district attorney’s office. Special Victims matters were her concentration: she oversaw investigations and litigation involving child homicides, physical and sexual abuse of children, sex trafficking and adult sex crimes. In Brooklyn, she took on an advisory role. As special counsel to Kings County District Attorney Kenneth P. Thompson, she advised on the office’s restructuring, personnel and policy, as well as cases involving wrongful convictions, homicides, child abuse and sex crimes. She also worked as a criminal investigator at the D.C. Public Defender Service.
At New York City’s Civilian Complaint Review Board, Malik held the executive director position, with responsibility for daily operations and a staff of 180. The board investigates allegations of police misconduct. Her tenure included the launch of its interactive Data Transparency Initiative, which opened agency data to the public. She and her team also worked on investigations, training, data analysis, reporting on policing issues and community outreach.
Malik earned her BA at Bates College and her JD at American University’s Washington College of Law. Her teaching work includes visiting faculty service with Harvard’s Trial Advocacy Workshop beginning in 2010; Harvard Law School lists her as a lecturer on law for Winter 2026.
