About John

John J. Altorelli is the managing partner of Aequum in New York City, with a corporate practice covering acquisitions, private equity and financing transactions. The firm’s account of his work names both institutional investors and operating businesses: private equity and hedge funds, banks, public companies, emerging-growth businesses and entrepreneurs. Financial services and real estate are among the industries represented, alongside insurance, biosciences, software, energy and communications.

Several of the matters in his biography concern the mortgage business. He represented Capmark Financial Group in the sale of its North American servicing and mortgage banking operations to a Berkshire Hathaway–Leucadia National Corporation joint venture. The stated consideration was approximately $1.3 billion, including servicing advances and warehouse loans. A separate Capmark transaction involved selling its affordable housing debt business to Citigroup for $1.2 billion in cash and assumed debt.

The biography also records work on AEA Investors’ $250 million private placement in XM Satellite Radio Holdings. For Accredited Home Lenders, it lists a $230 million secured loan from Farallon Capital followed by a $300 million acquisition by Lone Star. Blackstone, KKR and Madison Dearborn appear elsewhere in his record of private equity representations.

Altorelli received a B.S. from Southern Connecticut State University, awarded summa cum laude in 1991; his Cornell Law School J.D. followed in 1993. Aequum lists New York and Connecticut under his bar admissions.
