About George

George Hunter Roberts was a Katonah attorney and managing partner of Covey, Roberts, and Carmody-Roberts who also served as a town justice in Lewisboro. His retirement from the firm came in 2024; he died at 90 on July 12, 2026.

For 34 years, Roberts held the Lewisboro judicial office to which he was elected in 1970. His work with the Westchester County Bar Association included membership on its Ethics Committee and chairing its Grievance Committee. Away from the bench, the Katonah-Lewisboro school district and fire districts in northern Westchester were among the public bodies he served as legal counsel.

Fire service was also part of his life outside law. Roberts spent more than 25 years as a volunteer firefighter with the Goldens Bridge Fire Department. With the local Boy Scouts of America troop, he served for over a decade as an assistant scoutmaster.

His education took him from Manhattan College, where he received a political science bachelor’s degree in 1959, to New York University School of Law, where he earned his law degree in 1962. At the Katonah firm, he worked alongside his wife, Linda. She predeceased him, and he established a scholarship bearing her name at her alma mater, Hofstra Law School.

The Florida Bar lists Roberts as permanently retired and ineligible to practice law in Florida.
