About Scott
Scott A. Hamblin practices family law and criminal defense in Jefferson City, Missouri. A partner and shareholder at Brydon Swearengen & England P.C., he also takes personal-injury cases. Divorce, paternity and child custody are among the matters he handles, including requests to modify custody arrangements.
An assistant prosecuting attorney earlier in his career, Hamblin has tried criminal cases before judges as well as juries. His litigation work spans more than two decades in Missouri circuit courts and United States district courts. On the defense side, his practice covers state and federal charges. The offenses listed in his professional profile range from drug possession and trafficking to firearm offenses, money laundering, sexual crimes, manslaughter and driving while intoxicated.
Chemical testing after a DWI arrest is also a subject of his legal writing. Hamblin wrote “Chemical Test Refusal Cases,” the opening chapter of the Missouri Bar’s DWI Law and Practice, Second Edition. It addresses Missouri’s implied-consent law, including the risk of losing driving privileges after refusing a breath or blood test.
Outside his casework, Hamblin has taught lawyers through Missouri Bar continuing legal education programs and spoken at family-law events. Other audiences have included foster and adoptive parents: he has participated as a speaker and panel presenter in Children’s Division STARS and Spaulding classes. His professional memberships include the Missouri Bar’s Family Law Section and the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
