Simone R. Nugent represented plaintiffs with Nugent Keating Personal Injury Law in New Orleans, where a 2019 court filing lists her office at 3300 Canal Street. Her signature appears on the plaintiffs’ witness list in Payne v. Great West Casualty Company, filed that August. Her education preceded a career spanning plaintiff representation and insurance defense. Nugent received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2006. She completed her law degree and Graduate Diploma in Comparative Law at LSU in 2011, after an internship with the East Baton Rouge Parish Juvenile Criminal Department during law school. Duplass’s biography, published in December 2024, identifies her as a partner and describes her first twelve years of practice as plaintiff-side work beginning in Lafayette. That work included case analysis and trial preparation for premises liability, automobile and commercial trucking accidents, workers’ compensation, and Social Security disability matters. During that period, she also served on the Louisiana Association of Justice’s board of directors. The same account describes employment and racial discrimination litigation, along with civil and criminal defense work. Nugent also represented people alleging Fourth Amendment violations and civil-rights deprivations under Section 1983 by law enforcement officers. By the time of the Duplass biography, her work had shifted toward commercial liability insurance defense. The matters described included construction litigation for subcontractors and engineers, fire damage claims, premises liability, and automobile and trucking litigation.
