About Veronica
Veronica “Vicky” Jones serves as the Division O judge on the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. A visit to court with her uncle, after an accident that changed his life, is the starting point of the personal history recounted in her court biography. It traces her interest in the legal system to that experience.
Her subsequent career has included prosecution and criminal defense, parish attorney service, family law and private practice. The court credits her with more than three decades of legal experience. Jones earned her law degree at the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center. Among the recognitions listed in her biography are the American Institute of Trial Lawyers’ Litigator of the Year honor and a place in the National Black Lawyers Top 100.
Youth work also occupies a substantial part of that account: the court reports more than 23 years devoted to mentoring young people, developing leadership and community outreach. Her volunteer roles have included supporting at-risk youth. Jones is the mother of one son and an active Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
Her judicial position is in a court whose original jurisdiction covers civil and criminal matters in East Baton Rouge Parish. The court has fifteen elected judges, with divisions designated A through O; Jones holds the Division O position.
