In that case, the defendant refused to offer one dollar before trial. He also settled a motor vehicle accident case for $1,700,000 on the eve of trial and settled a case involving a trip and fall accident at mediation for $1,600,000. Brett settled a case against the New York City Housing Authority during trial for $1,500,000. The offer in that case prior to trial was $30,000. He obtained a $1,5000,000 settlement at mediation involving a lawsuit where a pedestrian was struck by a motor vehicle. Brett obtained a $1,225,000 settlement during trial in a case where his client was injured by a bus operated by the New York City Transit Authority. At one trial, the insurance company offered $16,000 to settle the case; the client rejected the offer, and the jury returned a verdict of $493,000.
