Kevin was born in San Antonio, Texas, at Wilfred Hall on Lackland AFB. Kevin’s father was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Kevin has two brothers, one older, Norman, and one younger, Paul. Kevin’s family moved around while he was younger to California, Texas and Izmir, Turkey. Then, in 1987, Kevin’s family moved to Colorado Springs where Kevin and his brothers grew up on the United States Air Force Academy. Kevin attended school in District 20 going to Pine Valley Elementary, Eagleview Middle School and then Air Academy High School. At Air Academy, Kevin was involved in marching band, concert band, baseball and Chamber Choir. Kevin was part of the 1994 Kadet Marching Band that was the first Kadet marching band to win the 4A State title. Go Kadets! Kevin met his wife, Kisa, in high school. Though, not high school sweethearts, they started dating right after high school. They both attended the University of Wyoming where Kevin got a bachelor’s degree in History, focusing on WWII Europe, with a minor in American Indian Studies. Kisa graduated with a BSN in nursing. In Wyoming, Kevin was a fencer on the UW club team fencing all three swords, including epee, foil and saber. One of Kevin’s claims to fame and favorite stories is of the time he disarmed one of the play actors/swordsmen at the Renaissance Festival in Larkspur after being challenged to a sword fight. Kevin went to law school at Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, Kansas. Kevin and Kisa married in 2002 after Kevin’s first year in law school. Kevin fashioned his law school career and experience to become a JAG in the United States Air Force. After law school, Kevin applied and received a direct appointment to the USAF JAG, but he could not get a commission due to a “history of kidney stones”. Yes, you can say his JAG career was literally stopped by a pebble. In 2005, after law school and after the JAG career did not pan out, Kevin and Kisa moved back to Colorado Springs where Kevin began his law career working for, now Colorado State Senator, Robert S. Gardner. Kisa began her career working as an oncology nurse at Memorial Hospital. Their son, Westin, was born in September 2006, and their daughter, Grace, followed closely behind in September 2007. Over his now fifteen-year career, Kevin has practiced in several areas of law, including civil litigation, government contracts, real estate transactions, real estate litigation, bankruptcy, collections, estate planning, probate and trust/estate administration. Kevin credits his wife, Kisa, for helping him move into estate planning because she was the one who taught him how to talk openly with other people about difficult topics like death and the process of dying.
