Jon L. Schoenhorn is a Connecticut criminal defense attorney whose firm, Jon L. Schoenhorn & Associates, LLC, lists its office in Hartford. He founded the firm and was first certified in both civil and criminal trial law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in 1990. Discrimination cases have placed Schoenhorn on both sides of the hearing table, as an adjudicator and as counsel. Appointed by Connecticut’s governor to serve as a hearing officer for the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, he conducted administrative hearings and wrote opinions on discrimination claims. That appointment is a former role. In his work as an attorney, he obtained a jury verdict in 2009 on an employee’s claim of a hostile work environment based on sexual orientation. He has also brought due process challenges to student disciplinary hearings involving high school and university administrators. Schoenhorn helped found the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, later serving as its president and as an elected Executive Board member. The association gave him its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022. His public service includes membership on the Legislative Task Force for Sentencing Reform in 2006–07; he is also a Life Fellow of the Connecticut Bar Foundation. The firm’s criminal practice covers investigations, grand jury proceedings, arrest and bail, pretrial motions, trials and appeals. White collar and motor vehicle investigations are among the matters it handles.
