About Kyle
Kyle Bachus represents people in wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases at Bachus & Schanker, the firm he co-founded in Denver, Colorado. He established the practice in 1996 after moving to Colorado in the mid-1990s. Earlier, he had studied at the University of Florida, receiving his B.S. in 1989 and J.D. in 1992. His first job after law school began the Monday following graduation, at a firm representing personal injury plaintiffs.
At Bachus & Schanker, he founded and now leads the Elite Litigation Group. Its caseload is limited to catastrophic injury and wrongful death. Trial lawyers work alongside victims’ advocates employed by the firm, whose responsibilities include coordinating resources and helping families with day-to-day needs. If criminal charges arise from the same death or injury, the team also works to enforce families’ rights under Colorado’s Victims’ Rights Act while pursuing the civil action.
His writing addresses families directly. Bachus wrote Unthinkable: Real Answers for Families Confronting Catastrophic Injury or Death after his mother was killed by a concrete mixer truck. He began the book within months of her death; Spanish and audiobook editions are also available.
For lawyers, his educational work includes co-chairing and teaching an annual statewide seminar on subrogation and reimbursement, a role dating to 2003. The seminar addresses the made-whole doctrine and insurance reimbursement rights, along with related issues in injury and wrongful death cases.
