About Terence

Terence J. Mix is a Carlsbad, California, attorney and author whose books include legal fiction and nonfiction about drug regulation. He holds an active California law license, with admission recorded on January 4, 1967.

His first novel appeared while he was still handling the Clomid litigation described in his author biography. Published in 1982 by Great Western Publishing, A Question of Judgment was a legal thriller; Bantam issued the paperback in 1985. The novel was optioned for a screenplay by Major Arts in 1988 and GOFA Productions in 1990. More recently, Auctorem House published Adverse Reaction in 2025, a thriller set in Los Angeles County.

The nonfiction has roots in his litigation work. From 1972 through 1996, Mix brought eight lawsuits against the manufacturer of Clomid, three of which reached trial. That work included examining corporate records at the company’s Cincinnati headquarters. Litigation records, scientific research, company documents and FDA files supplied material for The Price of Ovulation, published by Tendril Press in 2008. His next nonfiction book, American Guinea Pig, appeared in 2012 and criticized the FDA’s regulatory system.

Mix earned his law degree at Hastings College of Law in 1966. Alongside his litigation work, he served as the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Association’s president in 1981 and spent more than a decade on the California Trial Lawyers Association’s Board of Governors. His teaching experience included the Pepperdine law faculty and lecturing at USC School of Medicine.
