Chase Kathryn Kinney

Chase Kathryn Kinney practices family law in Redding, California, with Kinney & Kinney Attorneys at Law. Before becoming a lawyer, she worked in the same office as a secretary and paralegal for her father, Van Kinney. The practice then bore his name: Law Offices of Van O. Kinney.

Law school did not mean leaving that job. Kinney kept her full-time paralegal position while earning her law degree, combining four years of classes and study with a commute and management of the office. Her earlier secretarial work had involved legal research, motions, forms and family law procedure. She studied psychology as an undergraduate and later earned a Juris Doctor.

Her swearing-in took place at her father’s office after she passed the California bar examination. The State Bar records her admission on May 14, 2021; it now lists her license as active under attorney number 337018. In announcing her move into family law practice alongside her father, the office also announced its change of name to Kinney & Kinney.

The firm’s history predates her admission by decades: Van Kinney opened his family law office in 1977. Divorce, custody, guardianship and adoption, and property division appear among the firm’s advertised services.
