Mitchell John Howie

Mitchell John Howie is a Huntsville, Alabama, attorney and the founding member of the Law Office of Mitchell J. Howie & Associates, P.L.L.C. His business and litigation work spans Alabama and Texas, where he continues to represent longstanding business clients. The firm’s practice areas include criminal defense, family law, child custody, military divorce and military law.

Texas was the starting point for his private practice: he opened an office in Austin in 2004. That same year, he completed his law degree at the University of Houston, having earned a Bachelor of Arts with honors from the University of Texas in 2001. His law-school work took him into both a Houston law firm, as a clerk, and the Texas State Capitol, as a legislative intern.

An Air Force commission followed in May 2005. From July of that year until September 28, 2009, Howie served on active duty. His prosecution work included service in the Air Force Judge Advocate General Corps and as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney in the Eastern District of North Carolina. In 2009, he reopened his private practice.

His civilian work includes criminal defense and assistance to veterans with benefits claims, as well as reservists with employment claims under USERRA. Earlier work at a Houston firm and in private practice exposed him to bankruptcy, debt collection, contract litigation, personal injury, landlord-tenant disputes, and wills and estates.
